“I am fascinated by the skeleton and musculature of animals and birds. My challenge is to try transform redundant machine parts into a form that conveys the essence of living creatures.”
Rachael Long, received an MA in Fine Art from Norwich University of the Arts in 2018. The Norfolk basted artist found her interest in sculpture during many years spent in Scotland whereby she became influenced by agricultural scrap metal and its uses within her three dimensional art work.
The artist combines dedicated, detailed studies and drawings of her subjects; animals, from those found in the english countryside to large and exotic creatures, with the use of scrap iron. The resultant outcome beautifully captures the movement and characteristics of the animals.
Rachael Long is known in Norfolk for her public commissions including the Life Boat Horse, which is covered and then emerges from the sea with the movement of the tide at Wells-Next-The-Sea.
She has exhibited across the region in a multitude of group and solo exhibitions as well as working on private commissions and selling to clients internationally, including France, Austria, New Zealand and the USA.
